This is installation is really testing the ETA PE25 pellet boiler that has been running there since 2006. On this site an old hay barn was converted into a small business centre with four separate units. The boiler is used to heat each of these units, plus the main dwelling house (approx 30 meters away). In addition an Evergreen Energy 3 x AF21 solar kit has been fitted to the roof of the main house where it heats a 300L cylinder for domestic hot water use.

As part of the old farm yard there was a large grain silo being left unused and the customer wanted to try and use this as a pellet store if possible. Potential problems with using the silo were the tendency of metal silos to sweat in the Summer plus the distance (27m) between the boiler and the pellet store. All ETA pellet boilers have built in vacuum feed systems for topping up their own internal hopper on a daily basis, this system connects to the silo via two 27 meter suction hoses (one hose sucks, the other one blows). We can thankfully inform you that the silo has worked fine as a pellet store since the system was installed, and following a couple of teething problems the boiler is able to extract pellets by vacuum over the 27 meter distance.
