SELF BUILD BULK PELLET HOPPER/SILO

The self build silo is probably the most economical and flexible version available. The silo is built around an floor auger/trough system that is both simple and reliable.

The floor troughs are available in 1.0m, 1.5m and 2.0m lengths, these can be combined to give a maximum length of up to 5.0m long.

The floor trough is laid out and fixed to the ground (diagram to the right shows 2 troughs being combined) and the drive motor and gear box is attached at one end. The vacuum pipes from the boiler are then connected here and the motor is powered by the boiler control board.

Once the auger and motor have been assembled you can then build a box, wood or blocks are fine, around it and slope the floor into the floor trough so that you have a “V” shaped bottom to the silo (See diagram below).

Bag Silo

The bag silo is a simple system that can be assembled and ready to use in a short period of time. Two people could construct the entire unit in about 1.5 hours.

A bag silo comes with a filling spout and extraction motor included so all that is required is to fix the vacuum hoses to the motor, wire the motor back to the main board and then it is ready to go.

Because the bag section is made from a woven cloth it acts as one large filter when the pellet truck is filling the silo. This means that there is no dust in the air during filling.

The bag silo comes in two different sizes

• Small:  5.3 m3 or approx 3.4 tonnes. 2.5m x 2.5m x 2.2m high
• Large:  6.6 m3 or approx 4.3 tonnes. 3.0m x 3.0m x 2.2m high

BIOBIN OUTDOOR STORAGE

The BioBin wood pellet store, manufactured by Emerald Composites in Co Donegal, is an excellent solution for outdoor storage of wood pellets. BioBin offers four tonnes of storage capacity allowing for cost effective bulk purchase and its sectional assembly is supplied flat packed for assembly by the customer. Typical assembly time is approx. 5 hours with two people.
